Cavan County Museum was delighted to win the Chambers Ireland 'Excellence in Local Government' award for Commemorations and Centenaries 2017.
The museum won the award for its sterling work on its Commemoration Education Programme.
In this decade of centenaries, Cavan County Museum has led the way with its World War One Trench Experience, Battle of the Somme installation, Peace Garden, Reflective Space, and the 1916 Rising Experience, bringing these epochal events to life for visitors young and old.
Accepting the award on behalf of her hard-working team, Museum Curator Savina Donohoe said, “We are delighted to receive this Excellence in Local Government Award for our Commemoration Education Programme. We at Cavan County Museum take great pride in creating greater understanding of our present by educating people about our past and about the horrors of conflict. Through this work, we hope to play our part in maintaining a lasting peace on this island”.
